I do not give our dog, Bentley, rawhide.  If you don’t already know – rawhide can be dangerous for dogs because it can cause blockages, etc. And he is a very picky treat eater.  He is a dog who doesn’t like dog bones.  Keep in mind, Bentley is a dog who is not aware he is actually a dog.  He is a 9 pound bundle of black fur – and he does not realize this either.  He acts like he is the size of a great dane.  When the opportunity to review SmartBones, ‘The Healthy Alternative to Rawhide’ came up, I jumped at it.  This would be a true test of these said SmartBones… Would Bentley like them or would he turn up his nose!?

Some facts I have learned about SmartBones:

SmartBones are rawhide-free, made with real chicken, vegetables, and fortified with vitamins and minerals.  They are 99.2% digestible – most premium dog foods are 85% digestible, so this is very healthy for dogs.  Chewing promotes healthy dental care for dogs. 9 out 10 dogs prefer SmartBones over the leading rawhide chews. SmartBones are available in Chicken, Dental or Peanut butter flavors and in 4 sizes to fit every dog size. SmartBones are ideal for pet owners looking for a rawhide-free alternatives for their furry kids.

You can learn more about SmartBones on Facebook and their wesbite.

So – what do you think?  Do you think Bentley liked the SmartBones?

We received the Dental SmartBones.  They smell of a mix of peppermint and dog bone.  Not so appealing to me, but apparently – super appealing to Bentley.  The first time I opened the bag, Bentley’s ears went up and he ran over wagging his tail like a little maniac.  I gave him a SmartBone and he took of like a madman and found a secluded spot to go to town on his new treat.  Honestly, I have never seen this dog move so fast!  Now, every time he hears or even sees the bag of SmartBones, he runs high speed to get to them wagging his tail so hard I fear he might fall over.  Trying to take this picture was hilarious – I had to chase him all over because the poor thing thought I was trying to steal his tasty treat! He is a tiny dog and the bones for his size are just right.  They last him about an hour.  We will definitely be buying more of these goodies!

My dog Ellie is so smart she waits for us to finish eating our dinner because she knows she will get some before she eats her food to make sure she doesn’t get full from her food first.

My dog is a smart dog because she goes out to use the bathroom in an unfenced yard without a chain and comes right back.

naomi winkel January 31, 2012 at 11:33 pm

Coco is 10 years old and he is smart because I can let him run around the unfenced yard while I’m gardening and he won’t go in the road or wander, he staying in our yard

I have to keep my little dogs in a room with a baby gate at the door while I’m working around the house. My older dog goes over and knocks the baby gate over to let them out!

Hello,
I love the picture with Bentley guarding his bone, so cute!! I have a yellow lab named Buster. He’s a treat hog, he has a kong toy that he will refuse to play with unless there is a treat in it…He’s pretty smart, will only work for food lol. Great Giveaway!

My big beautiful 70 lb. black lab girl, Bo, would love to win these. She’s had SmartBones before and loves them. They are easily digested and cause no tummy problems – a huge plus! Bo is a very smart dog and has learned so many tricks that we’ve nicknamed her Smarty Bones Jones, or Smarty Bo for short. When you say the word “treat” she proceeds to sit, give one paw then the other, speak, and then bow all in an effort to win approval. She’s also great about telling us by barking when she has to go out without being taught to do so. Bo is a great companion and my best friend and deserves a special treat. Thanks for the contest!

Our Welsh Terrier loves to chew on things! Would be great to win!

Benny is smart because he can play the piano. :)

Our baby girl can walk on her hind legs, twirl around, jump through hoops, she will do anything for a treat!!

Awwww – Bo deserves some treats!!!

Bentley was running and hiding from me – thinking mama was going to grab his bone away or something… He really loves those SmartBones!

Melody Spence February 4, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Oh my dog loves to chew rawhide so he will probably love these.

My dog Perry is smart because he knows when bedtime is, and follows me right to hiscrate and goes right in with no extra coaxing needed. I always give him a treat once he’s inside, of course.

My baby girl, Miss Annika Grace is so smart because she knows when all of us are eating, she will lay down beside the kids and wait. If she is good and is “down” she will get food. She is just smart period, everything we tried to train her to do, she has, very quickly.

Oh Murphy is so smart. I just got him on Halloween from our local petstores rescue adoption days. He had been looking for a new forever home for almost 4 months poor guy. He just turned on those puppy dog eyes and it was hook, line and sinker for me. I fell in love and had to have him. We are so happy and he is being spoiled rotten which he so deserves!

My beagle Sophie is way too smart. She stays outside all day then sleeps inside at night. Often she will come in knowing that she has a treat waiting for her in her kennel, just to turn around and beg to go back outside. As soon as the door closes, she begs to come back in to secure yet another treat. She pulls this quite often on my husband who hasn’t figured out her game.

my dog is awesome. She is fun, cute, cuddly, and super smart. I love coming home and seeing how excited she is to see me. It’s true love <3

Darcy Novak February 7, 2012 at 2:59 pm

Besides being protective over the family.. He knows commands. He sits, lays down, shakes and he will dance with you.. :)

Carol B February 8, 2012 at 2:15 am

My dog is a smart dog b/c she senses when someone is sick or just needs a hug and stays right by your side until you feel better!

Vicki Vix February 8, 2012 at 3:17 am

Neat giveaway. Thanks. My baby is a smart dog because she knows I’m boss. Kidding, though she does know that. She’s smart though, because she knows how to get around my best intentions and get that extra treat or two. Very clever this one.

Jethro is smart because he listens to his mama, watches her hands and eyes so he knows whats going on and what’s going to happen next.

Leslie Harris February 12, 2012 at 4:06 pm

Jude Skocki Kelly February 13, 2012 at 1:47 am

I have 3 dogs that all ‘dance’ for their treats :)

Ashlee C February 13, 2012 at 10:37 pm

My dog is a smart dog because he knows how to sneak things out of the trash can without us knowing. Other than that he really isn’t that smart of a dog, but we love him anyways! :)

I’d much rather my darling Cosmo to be chewing on a Smart Bone instead of my sofa cushions.
